It
was around 1990, when I first heard of ALAN WOXX, a french musician, who
released the „Daemonolatreia“ 12“EP, which is one of the darkest Gothic
records of all time. Now, about 13 years later, I was told by a friend, that
a new CD by ALAN is available and I didn´t waste any time an contacted him
via his fine Website. Soon I received the „Blood Rain“ MCD and was very
impressed about the new songs. The CD starts with an medievalesque
instrumental track, followed by a heavily 80s influenced Gothic(-Rock) song,
which has a wonderful atmosphere, which reminds me a bit on bands like
Modern English or Sad Lovers And Giants. But these bands are not the perfect
comparisons, just the feeling is very close to them.
The
third (and unfortunatly final) track again has a medieval atmosphere,
combined with classical Dark Wave-sounds and I think a bit of bands like
early Das Ich (only musically, the vocals are totally different) and Dead
Can Dance (mid 80s period). I don´t know, if ALAN likes the comparison, but
the whole thing reminds me on early Sopor Aeternus in its consequence. Why
should I waste too many words? This CD is definetly a MUST HAVE for every
lover of serious Dark Wave! I hope, that I don´t have to wait another 13
years (I am 46 years old then) for new material of ALAN WOXX. (A.P.)

There
was a time, when tapelabels like No Control Torture and Beton Tapes have
been active and fanzines like Gloria Victis (from France), Isolation and
Graceless Passion (from The USA) and The Torturerer or Goth´s Not Dead (from
Germany) have been around and featured the pure Gothic-/Dark
Wave-Underground, which was lightyears away from any commercial success or
Chart entries. From this wonderful time comes the „Daemonolatreia“ 12“EP of
the french musician ALAN WOXX, who released this EP on his own Label
Limb-Records. The record was limited to 666 copies and was well-known in the
scene of this period This is one of the most consequent and darkest Gothic
records ever made and for sure a MUST in every collection of this kind of
music. The only record, I can compare to „Daemonolatreia“ is the „Reptile
House EP“ of The Sisters Of Mercy, one of my favourite Gothic-Rock records
of all time. The record contains a lyric booklet in English and French
language. Get a copy of „Daemonolatreia“ as long as limited quantities are
available. This is a real Gothic-Underground
classic!!! (A.P.) |
