WOMB - Unclean (CD)

(Greg Ferrari, 11 Pine crescent, Brentwood, Essex CM13 1JE, England)

After a couple of tapes, the london-based project WOMB presents its first self-produced CD.

GREG FERRARI´s solo, band comes out of the wide Gothic-Rock genre, but is not comparable to many of the classic bands, even, if I guess, that GREG also likes the "great" bands. His personal vision of Gothic-Rock is based somewhere between the harder american style, early 80s Post-Punk from England and some New Wave influences. Some of the compositions could become "classic" tracks some day in the future, if they would be played by a complete band. As a solo project, some of the tracks are sounding too much the same, some more musicians would give the whole thing a bit more of a "band-feeling", than just a "project-sound". I also feel, that the new studio recordings do not have the more powerful and raw sound of the tapes, the production is sometimes a bit too clean, but anyway, don´t think, that I do not like this release! No, the CD is really great, because in the last years we didn´t get too many releases of real Gothic-Rock. WOMB´s "Unclean" is one of these very few and so you should get it as long as it is a "secret tip", maybe WOMB will be part of the first league of a possibly forthcoming Gothic-Rock-rebirth. (A.P.)
