WINGS OF DESTINY - Promo CD-R 2000/2001 (CD 2001)

The German band WINGS OF DESTINY released a MCD back in 1997, which has been very Gothic-Rock inspired. After that, I thought, the band would go more into a Gothic-Metal direction, but because of various line-up changes, they became more a Wave-Band with Gothic- and Pop-moments, which is really nice. I actually like it more than the old stuff, ´cos it has a very own sound. The female singer has a good, but a little bit naive voice (in a good way, like a mixture of The Cranes and Mecano - the Pop band, not the Post-Punk band of the same name). WINGS OF DESTINY have promoted a forthcoming CD album, called „Cursed Desires“ since 1999, but didn´t release it yet. Now it is announced for autumn 2001 and I really hope to finally get it to hear then, because I am sure, it will be a really good album. Until then, you can book the band for gigs, so visit their homepage (which is also the site of the booking agency of the same name - Ikon, Crüxshadows, Whispers In The Sahdow...). I guess, WINGS OF DESTINY are live much more Rock and powerful, than on these Songs. (A.P.)
WINGS OF DESTINY - Cursed Desire (Demo-Tape)

(Olaf Sprick, Stemmer Str. 2, 32689 Kalletal, Germany)

WINGS OF DESTINY are a german Band, which has released a CD-EP called "Where Darkness Falls" back in 1997. After some line-up changes, they present some new stuff on this demo, but I guess, this music will be released on CD too in the near future. The band plays a kind of Indie-Rock with a Gothic edge and sometimes a few Metal guitars. The voice of female singer Diana-Alice could have been produced a little bit better, I miss a bit of power, but I guess, that will change, when the band enters a studio to produce the debut album later this year.

The tape starts with a short piano intro, followed by the rocky "Where Darkness Falls (Reprisal)"."Maze Of Love" is in the style. The fourth track "Lament (Losing Her Faith)" reminds me on early 80s Hazel O´Connor songs (does anybody not know the wonderfiul movie "Breaking Glass" and its brilliant soundtrack?). The title track "Cursed Desire" is a poppy and little bit scrappy Rock-Song.

All in all the new songs are really nice, but I prefer the old material, which was darker. Due to the fact, that this is a demo, you should not exspect a perfect production and sound, but if you are interested in really promising new acts, get in contact with Olaf of WINGS OF DESTINY. (A.P.)
