WHISPERS IN
THE SHADOW - Permanent Illusions WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW - Permanent Illusions (CD 2001) (Trisol/Efa ???)
The music on this album is very many-sided, from straight and powerful Rocksongs and Rock-Operas to calm songs and experimental tunes. I think, this album could be the music for a theatre play, and I am sure, singer Ashley would like this idea. The cover artwork also reminds me on a Fantasy painting of the 70s. I had to listen a few times to this album, before I really liked it, but now it grows every time, when I start it in my player. WHISPER IN THE SHADOW had grown up, I think! (A.P.)WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW - A Taste Of Decay (CD 2000) (Trisol/Efa ?) „A
Taste Of Decay“ is the third album of Austria´s best known Wave-Band
these days and it is the perfect link between their masterpiece
„November“ from 1999 and the 2001 album „Permanent Illusions“. The
album opens with an uptempo song „Here I Go Again“, followed by some
very good Wave songs in the typical WHISPERS style. The most remakable
song is „If Blue Turns Red“, a more Darkwave sounding track with a
very nihilistic atmosphere, followed by the title track „A Taste Of
Decay“, which is really powerful and could become a classic in a few
years. The album closes with „The Edge Of Time“, which is on this
album the only link to the Cure comparisons, that WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW
had to fight with in former years. Its atmosphere is the same as in
„Pornography“, a very dragging and brawling hymn and by far the
darkest song on „A Taste Of Decay“. Normally, the best songs of an
album are put into the first part of the CD, but this time, the last 3
songs beat everything else! (A.P.)
WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW - November (CD) (M.O.S. Records-Trinity/Efa) After a long delay (see the title of this CD!), here we have the second album of austrian band WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW. The first album "Laudanum" had a very Cure-ish touch, but on "November" the band developed their very own and personal style. Of course we still hear some Cure-influences (mostly from their "Disintegration" period), but who does not like this great band? The infos describes the music as "Dark-Trip-Wave", which possibly means Psychedelic-80s-New Wave, not a bad mixture, I think. My favourite tracks are the really dark "Train" and the titlesong "November". A very complex song is "Sleep", which runs more than 9 minutes and shows, that the band is much more, than a pure clone of well-known 80s bands. To complete the very good impression of the whole work, the artwork of the booklet is very well done and so you should not think too long, if you buy the CD or not. My tip is: buy it at once and try to see the band live somewhere! (A.P.) |
