BACK AGAIN: ENGLISH WAVE & GOTHIC REVIEWS
| HERESIE THE FACULTIES OF A BROKEN HEART VIRGIN PRUNES - Heresie (2 x 10") (LŽInvitation Au Suicide/Baby/New Rose) The VIRGIN PRUNES have been an absolute unique band in the early and mid 80s and influenced the whole Gothic-Rock genre as much as , for example, Christian Death did. "Heresie" is one of their hardest to find works today. This Double 10" has been released two times on vinyl, first as a box set with various inserts on the famous french LŽInvitation Au Suicide label and second as a standard Double 10" in a fold out cover. The first disc contains 7 studio recordings, which are some of the most disturbing of this group. Just listen to the A-Side. The B-Side shows also the humour of the VIRGIN PRUNES in the song "Down The Memory Lane", which is still a well-known band classic. The studio songs has been re-released as bonus tracks on the "Over The Rainbow" CD, which is a compilation of various PRUNES sampler appearances. The second 10" of this set contains 5 live tracks, recorded in Paris in June 1982. With "Caucasian Walk", "Walls Of Jerico", "Pagan Lovesong" and "Come To Daddy", there are four of my personal all time favourite PRUNES songs plus the track "Theme For Thought". "Heresie" is surely a Gothic-Rock classic, but if you ask me for the "you must have" record of the VIRGIN PRUNES, I would say, it should be the album "If I Die I Die". This records shouldnŽt miss in any Gothic-Rock collection. VIRGIN PRUNES - The Faculties Of A Broken Heart (12") (Rough Trade) Another classic of one of the most original Gothic bands of the early 80s, IrelandŽs wonderful VIRGIN PRUNES. "Baby Turns Blue" was taken from the groundbreaking album "If I Die, I Die" and is still a song, played in many underground discos today. The B-side of this 12" (produced by WireŽs Colin Newman) is more experimental and reminds of some sampler appearences of the VIRGIN PRUNES, which you can listen to on the compilation "Over The Rainbow" |
