MORS SYPHILITICA – My Virgin Widows (Videoclip 2001)

Even, if this Videoclip of MORS SYPHILITICA is not an official release for sale, I think, it is a good idea, to write a review about it here, ´cos the Hammer couple are a wonderful band, which I really like to support in any way, I can.

The videoclip features the song „My Virgin Widows“ from the album „Feather and Fate“, which is one of the more poppy and danceable tracks of the band. The musicians, Lisa and Eric Hammer plus two other players stand in front of a colourful scenery and perform the song. Lisa has a flower in the hair and wears some kind of a traditional Bavarian dress (in German, it is called „Dirndl“, I don´t know the English word for it) and simply looks beautiful. Eric plays Banjo and wears a Zebra jacket and has very long hair. The whole lyrics are written in the video and a jumping skull shows the words like in a Karaoke video. And then, there is a cool cartoon skeleton, which plays Military Drums, which is very funny. All in all, „My Virgin Widows“ is a simple, but likeable videoclip and it is great, to discover the visual side of MORS SYPHILITICA´s music. Hope, that there will be more video material in the future, maybe a DVD release or something like that... (A.P.)

MORS SYPHILITICA – Feather And Fate (CD 2001)

I´ve waited very long for this new release of the extraordinary artists Lisa and Eric Hammer, who released two brilliant albums of MORS SYPHILITICA before. I was not disappointed, ´cos “Feather And Fate” is close to perfection. Well, it is not Death-Rock like the classic Requiem In White, but it transport a very Gothic feeling, without being dark and gloomy. I must think of a mixture of early Cocteau Twins and their “Victorialand” album with a lot of influences from oriental sounds to medieval parts and all above the clear vocals of Lisa Hammer which give MORS SYPHILITICA its very own atmosphere. What shall I say...if you are only into classic Death-Rock, then try to find a copy of Requiem In white´s Mini album (hahaha...no chance), but if you want to hear wonderful, warm music, which makes the sun shining brighter and your face smiling, then you should get “Feather And Fate”. After a much too long waiting time, here is the second album of the US-Band MORS SYPHILITICA, whose members LISA and ERIC HAMMER formerly have been in the legendary Requiem In White.

"Primrose" features 60 minutes of mostly Gothic-Rock with influences from classical and folk-music. The guitars sometimes sound a bit like on the last two Mephisto Walz albums and the whole atmosphere reminds me in parts on This Mortal Coil in their early period. The whole CD lives through the wonderful voice of LISA HAMMER and the great compositions. MORS SYPHILITICA don´t transport any cliche, but they are very original and serious, so what else can I say than: I love this CD! (A.P.)
