GHOULTOWN – Live From Texas (CD + DVD 2003)

(Angry Planet Records www.angry-planet.net )

Yeeeeeeesssssss..! That´s it! The first Livealbum of the magnificent GHOULTOWN, the world´s best Gothabilly-Mariachi-Country-Punk-band.

After listening to their loveable albums „Tales From The Dead West“ und „Give´em More Rope“, I was sure, that this band kicks ass live on stage. As they didn´t tour Europe yet, it was unpossible for me to see them performing, but with this double release of a Live CD and a Live DVD, I got the proof, that my idea was right. The CD contains 14 Songs with a lot of power and is often a bit faster, than the album versions. The sound is very good and the band really rocks, so round about 55 minutes of perfect entertainment are guaranteed! The CD has beside the Livetracks the raw studio track „Legend Of Everett Sykes“.

The 60 minute DVD features the same concert as the CD in varying picture quality, but I guess, this is wanted by the band. As bonus features, we´ll get to see the videoclips of the gorgeous „Killer In Texas“ and „Fistful Of Demons“, so this release needs nothing else to write about than: GET IT!!! (A.P.)

GHOULTOWN – Give ´Em More Rope (CD 2002)

Wow, this is cooooool stuff…well, better call it hot stuff, ´cos GHOULTOWN´s from Dallas/Texas, not the coldest place on this planet, I think. I desparetly awaited the second full-length album of one of America´s finest bands these days. This is some kind of „Cow-Gothabilly-Country-Death-Punk“ and I think, at gigs of GHOULTOWN will be a very wide ranged audience of Punks, Gothics, Death-Rockers and many more. „Give ´em More Rope“ is a perfect follow up-album to their wonderful debut „Tales From The Dead West“. The band is possibly a more trashy bastard of 16 Horsepower or something like that, really powerful. If Johnny Cash will come back some time in the future as a Zombie, he surely will make music like Ghoultown, I think. It is great, that the band got a license deal with a label in The Netherlands, so hopefully, their music will be more known in Europe soon and hopefully the band will tour in the „old world“. Until then, you should get this new album and search for your Cowboy Boots and your Stetson in the closet, you will need them at the concert! I think film directors like Tarantino and Rodriguez should contact GHOULTOWN for  the soundtrack of their next movies. (A.P.)

GHOULTOWN - Boots Of Hell (MCD 2001)

(Angry Planet Records, angryplanet@hotmail.com , www.ghoultown.com )

They are back again! After the wonderful album „Tales From The Dead West“, here is another fine release of Texas-Chainsaw-Gothabillys GHOULTOWN, even, if I am not quite sure, if this is an official release or a Promo-pack only for booking. Anyway, this MCD is worth it, to talk about.  The CD is packed in a large plastic envelope, with info-sheet and photograph of the band, which looks very cool. All the three tracks are great, especially „Killer in Texas“ (a videoclip for this track also exists). And again, GHOULTOWN sounds like Wall Of Voodoo meeting the Misfits with a certain Cramps edge. The info also talks about Nick Cave, Ennio Morricone and The Gun Club...yeah, this is right. It seems, that Death-Rockers can have fun... (A.P.)

GHOULTOWN - Tales From The Dead West (CD 2000)

Well, this music is normally not my cup of tea, but what is „normal“ these days? I read about GHOULTOWN from Dallas/Texas some times before, but only now listened to their music and was absolutely fascinated.

GHOULTOWN play a strange kind of Death-Mariachi-Billy-Rock, sounding like a combination of  Wall Of Voodoo, Theatre Of Hate and early The Empire Hideous, creating  the soundtrack for a Robert Rodriguez film, that possibly can be called „El Mariachi 2: From Dusk Till Dawn and Back to Dusk Again“. If you like, you can also add Tito & Tarantula and 16 Horsepower, playing an alternative soundtrack for Hershell Gordon Lewis´ „2000 Maniacs“. Yes, I think, this is a perfect description. To give you an easier hint, call it „Goth-Country-Billy“. The band, the artwork and the whole concept has a fantastic B-Movie taste and I guess, this band is brilliant live. I imagine a bunch of Goths, jumping around in front of the stage like being completely mad! „Tales From The Dead West“ makes me thirsty for some ice-cold cans of beer, which proves, how great this album is. Check it out! (A.P.)
