BACK AGAIN: GOTHIC / WAVE / DARK-WAVE

DHM – Disco Haine Medina (CD 2003)

(Furia Musica www.dada.terra.pl/dhm   www.terra.pl/furia  )

DHM came together in Poland more than ten years ago, but only released their first „official“ album now on the always interesting Furia label.

The music can easily be described as early 80s Post-Punk, very powerful and aggressive in the music, but harmonic in the singing. Think of Killing joke collaborating with some bands from the legendary Factory label.

I really like these distorted guitars, which give the sound a Gothic feeling, too. Combined with the mostly very melodic vocals, the sound of DHM is nothing else, than 80s Guitar-Wave, maybe a rough version of Sad Lovers And Giants. But there is also a more raw side of the band, where they let out a lot of punky Goth-Rock energy in the tradition of bands like Every New Dead Ghost.

I REALLY like this album a lot, as it proves, that there is a lot to explore in Poland. I am sure, that there are many more good bands and hopefully, Furia Musica will present them to a bigger audience. No need, to write a longer article, just get in contact and order the album and you know, what I mean. (A.P.)
