THE MOVEMENT - Move
INTERVIEW MAI 2003
A short interview with Lukas from denmark´s mod band THE MOVEMENT:
?
How would you describe your music? Archi Alert
says, it is
a little bit
retro and you call it modern rock.
!
Yea
maybe it is a little bit retro, but we try to make it up to date, we have
our
Inspiration, and some of the bands that we love are pretty old.
But I think in time we will be more personal.
We describe our music as HARD MOD.
? Mod-Culture
is a little
bit sixties/seventies-style. Do you think, the
mod-movement needs a renaissance? What is the difference between past
times and now?
! I don’t really believe
in sub culture. I like the MOD thing because there is a contrast between
looking nice and having a radical message, it makes it more serious and
people expect something else when you look nice. (Then you can kick them in
the back) “clean living under difficult circumstances”
? Is there a
"mod-scene" in Kopenhagen right now?
! No, we have a scooter
club, but no mod scene. We are playing on the punk scene, and the normal
clubs, and then to all political stuff.
? How does a "mod-scene" look like?
! I don’t really know. The mod events we have been playing to has been very
sixties like, with scooters and pretty dressed girls. Our goal is to
unite.
? Do you think
young people should be more interested in politics? Or in
social life?
! Yea. There is no point
in denying that the society don’t play a part in each individuals lives. So
of cause young people should care. I know politicks is boring, but we have
to bring it down to basic. I thing my job as a songwriter is to clean the
blackboard, I think people knows what’s good caus we are humans, most people
have just forgot it. In these days we judge to much with our eyes, and less
with our heart, we are stressed and we are afraid to change. The market has
to work, we have to bye new things all the time, if people settle with the
TV or the cd player they got now, there would be a crises, and we would
properly have a new war to kick start the market. But humans are basically
opposite than the market and capitalism, our deepest dream is to commit to
each other, that’s our only way out of the jungle. But all those shining
things, and the pathetic freedom values made by hypocrites, lives in
everybody’s brains and makes us unhappy. It’s the dilemma between human
life, and material identity. I think it’s sad.
?
What can
the audience expect, when he visits a live concert of THE MOVEMENT?
! A lot of energy, real
music played real good. You can also expect some statements, and the reason
why, is that most people only hear one statement and that’s what the media
tells you, and that’s basically the same thing all way round caus the media
is private and owned by money makers.
?
One of your producer is called Archi Alert, singer of german punkrockband
TERRORGRUPPE. Why did you contact him for this job?
! He is a good friend of
Adam, the guy who owns the studio where we recorded. We talked about it and
tort it was a great idea, and Archi had heard us play Wild at heart in
Berlin. He is a great guy.
? How much was
he involved into the production?
! As much as he wanted,
he chose the songs and he didn’t really wanted to use many effects. I think
he wanted us to sound like us.
? Do you see
similarities between THE MOVEMENT and TERRORGRUPPE?
! I thing we sound a bit
more British. But in our heart and souls, I thing we are very much the same.
I like them very much.
? Your record
is also available as vinyl. Why?
! Because we like vinyl,
and Weird system from Hamburg were into it.
?
Some last words?
! FIGHT BACK!!!!
Cheers Lukas.
THE MOVEMENT – Move (CD 26.05.2003)
(Destiny Records/www.themovement.dk)
THE
Vorbilder
gibt es, die man nicht leugnen will: The Clash oder auch The Jam, sicherlich
auch irgendwo The Who.
Auch textlich hat THE MOVEMENT was
Fast
tanzen verleiten. Mein Lieblingstrack ist übrigens „Turn Away Your Faces“.
